This is a film that is a few years old. After all, it was released in 2004. But it's still funny when you watch it. It's the kind that is watchable, timeless, and dealing with that big moment when you have to face your in-laws.
And if the scenario is not the most intelligent, it still has enough strength for Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro to give each other the line. Ben Stiller, the son-in-law, decides to introduce his parents to his in-laws. We remember that in the first opus, he faced his in-laws alone and had to manage to be accepted. A thing that he finally managed to do. It remains only to make his family accepted too.
A family played by Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand. One suspects, they will not take themselves for the Pic de la Mirandole! They are baba cool, which is totally contrary to the values of the father-in-law.
He is Robert De Niro, the guy who is straight in his thoughts and who needs order. For him, carpe diem does not exist. It's more like military organization.
The two families are reunited and inevitably, throughout the film, it is a happy mess. That we appreciate and that reminds us from time to time of the own difficulties that we have (or, had) with our own family.
