Sonequa Martin-Green plays the title role in Start Trek Discovery

Moving away from the post-apocalyptic genre, it's the Star Trek franchise that offers her a chance to rebound. She even gets the lead role in the latest spin-off Star Trek Discovery. She plays the commander Michael Burnham and follows in the footsteps of Nimoy, Picardo, Wil Wheaton, etc. Star Trek, which has been around for almost 60 years, is constantly trying to attract young people to the franchise and the universe. Discovery is only the latest, but it introduces more contemporary characters that new generations can better relate to. In addition to the title role given to an African-American actress, there are other minority characters... a doctor claiming to be gay, the ambiguity of a non-binary officer, etc.
