If we know about Chernobyl in Europe, it is because it is the closest nuclear accident to us and the one that has affected us the most. However, it is far from being the only one. Fukushima in Japan a few years ago, or the one of Three Mile Island in the United States, whose existence is often kept silent.
It was March 28, 1979, well before Chernobyl. On that day, a nuclear incident worthy of Hollywood disaster movies occurred.
This is the reason why Netflix has made a short documentary on the issue, which is available since May 04, 2022. Divided into 4 parts, the documentary retraces this accident by going back over the causes of the accident, but also the consequences. The whole, with archive images, unpublished and long interviews that try to shed light on what could have been the biggest nuclear disaster in history.
The direction was not left to just anyone. Netflix has entrusted the reins to an Oscar nominee: Kief Davidson. He has enlisted the services of Michael and Carla Shamberg, known for their film Erin Brokovich.
